![]() Paige Simmons, the sitting Magisterial District judge in Uwchlan is a Democrat and was elected to a six-year term in 2021.She was rated as Qualified by the Bar Association. Deborah Ryan, the sitting county District Attorney who was elected as a Democrat in 2019 and is also stepping aside from a second term to run for judge.He was not rated by the Bar Association as there were insufficient ballots cast for him. Andrew Rongaus, a former county and state prosecutor who now works for Siana Law firm in Uwchlan, is running as a Republican.He was rated as Qualified by the Bar Association. Redmond, another assistant county Public Defender, has run for judge as a Republican in past elections. A former prosecutor and criminal defense attorney, he is a Republican. Louis Mincarelli, who was also appointed to the court in 2022 and who now handles criminal.He is a Democrat and is running for the second time for the bench. Thomas “Tip” McCabe, a former assistant county Public Defender who now works for the law firm of O’Donnel, Weiss & Mattei of Pottstown.She was elected to that post in 2019 and is stepping aside to run for judge. Fredda Maddox, a Democrat who currently serves as Chester County Sheriff.He is a Republican and serves on the Kennett Consolidated School Board. Donald Kohler, a private attorney with his own practice in West Chester, handling civil and family law matters.She has said she would resign her seat if elected to the bench. Kristine Herman, a Democrat who currently serves as a state representative in Harrisburg in the 167th Legislative District.A former assistant attorney general and a Democrat, she is also making her first run for office. ![]() Nicole Forzato, who was appointed to the court in 2022 and who now handles criminal and other matters.She was not rated by the Bar Association, as insufficient votes were cast for her. She is a Democrat and is also running for the first time. Sarah Black, an assistant Chester County Public Defender, who represents indigent clients accused of criminal offenses.All are registered attorneys in the state. ![]() Four of the candidates have been rated as “Qualified” by the Chester County Bar Association, while two who participated in that organization’s plebiscite were not given ratings, and six others declined to participate in the semi-annual exercise. Ten of the candidates have been endorsed by their respective parties. Ten of the candidates have also filed to have their names on the Republican ballot. The Democratic ballot holds the names of all 12, both Democrats and Republicans since the ability to cross-file in nominally non-partisan elections is permitted in Pennsylvania. There are also elected officials who currently hold other offices. There are two sitting judges - the first time members of the Common Pleas bench have run for election to a full term since the early 1990s. There are current and former public defenders. There are current and former prosecutors. There are private attorneys who handle civil and family law cases. The candidates provide a wealth of experience in the legal and political world, and offer the voters a wide range of choices when they cast their ballots in the Primary Election that occurs Tuesday. The six men and six women on the ballot are hoping to win the nomination either as Democrats or Republicans, or both, to run for the office that represents the county’s trial court, in which criminal, civil, and family legal matters are played out by litigants big, small and in between. WEST CHESTER - In a prelude to what will be a historic election in November, when five positions on the Court of Common Pleas of Chester County will be on the ballot - the most of any election in the county’s 340 years - 12 attorneys will put their names before voters on Tuesday.
